2013 & New Goals

Happy New Year!

I am super excited about making this year as productive and more successful than 2012. Keeping goals in front of you, planning a new product line, blog posting, reaching out to customers – to name a few of the duties of a business owner are tasks outside of the studio that requires constant attention. One of the great ways to increase the productivity of the business mindset is by “masterminding” with someone who shares your interest and your passion.

I teamed up with the awesome owner of Naturally Good Soaps – Melissa Rivera. Together we are planning on ways to increase our accountability in our business. Soap making and creating body care products is a skill and requires research and planning. In addition to all the effort and time we put in our great bath products there is also the “hat” of being an business owner.  Our plan is to hold each other accountable for task and projects that we have set out to do but never have finished. It’s basically another way of having someone “kick me in the butt” when I start to procrastinate on a project.

The 1st accountability project is to create a dream (vision) board. What is a vision board? It is a visual collection of goals that you would like to adopt in your lifestyle. A vision board serves to always keep your goals in front of you, remind you and keep you on track to pursue those goals.

I created my vision board and hung it on the wall in my work space to always remind myself of the goals I would like to attain for myself. Some of these goals include: branding, increase production and selling of products and an organized work space.

What are some of your goals for 2013? How are you planning to carry out your goals?

Rosie I love what you and Melissa are doing! The two of you can gently nudge each other while your friendship grows.

I’m happy for your partnership. My goal, and there’s only one right now, is to actually start a company. I have been making soap and experimenting with different recipes to find one I am really pleased with. The only thing holding me back is the fear of the unknown. Once I find a recipe that I really feel comfortable working with I will go to my accountant and insurance agent and get the ball rolling. I would very much appreciate any advice you could give. I don’t imagine I will be able to quit my day job. A luxury I do have, though, is that I work from home. Thanks for the questions at the end of your post.

    Hi Sue!

Congrats on the soapmaking journey. It is a very rewarding experience. Glad to see that you’re taking care of the business aspect also. Liability and licenses are so important and declares you to be a business. Definitely search for soapmaking group communities. It is awesome to be part of a group of creative artisans.
