DIY Herbal Facial Steam for Skin Care and Colds

One of the cheapest and easiest skin care regimens is an herbal facial steam. It only requires herbs often found in your kitchen and takes no more than 5 minutes to prepare.

An herbal facial steam does wonders for the skin by opening the pores to allow facial serums and moisturizer to penetrate the skin barrier and go to work. An herbal steam is also great for congestion colds as it can help break up the mucus trapped inside.

Quick and Easy Directions for an herbal facial steam

In a small pot add about 1-2 inches of water and heat to a gentle simmer.

Add 1-2 tablespoons of lavender, calendula, rosemary, peppermint, eucalyptus (my favorite herb to use for congestion colds).

Cover the pot and allow the herbs to infuse into the water for about 5 minutes.

Uncover the pot to allow the steam out.

Drape a towel over your head and slowly and carefully lower your head towards the steam. Once you feel the steam on your face stop and allow the steam to circulate around the face. If the steam is too hot raise your head a bit. The heat of the steam on your skin should feel comfortable.

Inhale the steam slowly through the nose and out of the mouth for about 10 minutes. If you have a cold, you may want to keep tissues to blow your nose every now and then. The steam will loosen the congestion inside your nose so be prepared!

Once finished, strain the herbs in a colander and discard the herbs.

As a skin care routine apply a toner after the facial steam and follow with a moisturizer.
